Proposed Legislative Amendment on Majority Leadership
1967 Constitutional Convention Amendment: Establishes Election of Legislative Officers in December Prior to January Term
- Adds new mid-December legislative meeting after each election for the Senate and Assembly to organize and elect officers.
Section 4. The article includes provisions for the organization and procedures of the legislature.
§ 4. a. The legislative term shall begin with the calendar year following the election of the members. The legislature shall convene on the first Wednesday after the first Monday of each January. The legislators-elect shall meet not later than the first Monday after December fifteenth following their election solely to organize and elect officers for the legislative term following.
